Riley A. Polek-Davis creates psychedelic feminine paintings through energy and flow. She describes the work as magical, trippy, sensual, and an expression of the female form through color and movement.
Behind the visual intensity is a deeply intuitive process. Riley does not begin with a rigid template. She listens, observes, absorbs, and lets the energy of each subject guide what appears on the canvas.

Seconds after meeting Riley, her warmth makes the space feel familiar. Her craftsman home in Oxnard reflects the care she has for her community, her housemates, and the life she has intentionally created.
That same openness lives inside the work. Her paintings may feel otherworldly, but they begin with a genuine interest in people and the energy they carry.

The Studio
Beautiful contradiction
Half of Riley’s bedroom functions as an active art studio: canvases gather throughout the room, paint marks trace the floor and walls, and tools remain close enough to follow an idea immediately.
The other half is calm, considered, clean, and meticulously organized. Together, the two spaces mirror her practice—instinctive and expressive, yet grounded by intention.

Entering the canvas
Riley begins early. She makes matcha in her favorite white mug, turns on music, and prepares a fresh canvas on the wooden easel in the corner of her room.
Once she starts, the outside world recedes. Her attention becomes so complete that painting feels less like a task and more like entering another state.

The Process
Energy Becomes Color
The model is never only a figure. Her aura, psyche, movement, and conversation become the foundation of the painting.
Subject, energy, and intuition
Choosing The Muse
The connection comes first
Riley finds potential subjects through daily life—school, travel, friendships, gatherings, festivals, and unexpected encounters. Appearance may create the first pull, but energy determines whether the connection becomes a painting.
Conversation allows her to understand the woman beyond the surface. Through that exchange, Riley begins to sense the colors, movement, and visual atmosphere that belong to the subject.
No template. No preliminary sketch.
Intuition
Trusting what arrives
After photographing the model, Riley carries the conversation and emotional energy into the next morning. Ideas for color and psychedelic form arrive through the subject’s aura rather than a predetermined composition.
She does not rely on a template or detailed sketch. Each session begins by returning to the feeling of the encounter and allowing that feeling to direct the next decision.

Those qualities are not simply themes placed onto the paintings. They are part of the emotional language Riley carries into every portrait.

Making a life through art requires networking, education, selling, self-promotion, constant improvement, and the willingness to keep showing up.
Work Ethic
Obsession became a practice
Riley began painting at twenty-two. Once she discovered the passion, her life quickly reorganized around it. Within only a few years, she was showing in galleries, painting at festivals, teaching art, pursuing her MFA, and supporting herself through her creative work.
The romantic image of the artist is only one part of the story. Behind every canvas is the less visible labor of building relationships, managing opportunities, studying, selling, communicating, and continuing to improve.
